Riverbond Review: An Ultimate Adventure

Riverbond is an action-adventure game that was developed and published by Cococucumber. It was released on June 9, 2019. Its platforms are Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It’s an action and adventure game like Minecraft Dungeons. In this game, you can play on different maps and defeat different bosses. Each map has an individual boss. You can play this game on your computer, which is a Windows operating system. You can also let your friend or family play with you by joining with a controller.

And you can play with up to 1-4 players only. It’s a virtual world filled with a lot of quests. It’s a friendly game though; I still play this game with my sister. I love it because of the adventure. It’s especially a good thing that you can play this game even offline. The game costs about $25 on Steam, but in Epic Games, a discount was offered, and at that, it was $10, and it was even free at a time. In Riverbond, you can get new skins by completing quests or doing high scores.

There are more than 35 skins in Riverbond, and at the beginning, there are four skins you are going to get: Watermelon, Donut, Pug, and Max. Unfortunately, this game is not an online multiplayer game, but you can play this game with another joystick by pressing the button on the joystick.

Game Mechanics

For its game mechanics, Riverbond is an action-adventure game with hack-and-slash elements; the hack-and-slash elements are in non-RPG games. You can say the wave of enemies, the foreground on combat hack-and-slash elements. You can defeat the enemies, navigate through various levels, collect loot, or compete with other people by high-scoring. And in each different map, based on the map, there is also a different boss, and each boss has some minions who protect the boss; you can also call them soldiers or army. On each map, players can get various different weapons, swords, and guns.

My favorites are the rainbow gun and the normal blue gun. These two guns are helpful when there are too many minions. The players have a special ability; when you press the shift, it will do the special ability, and by pressing RB + LB, you can do the ability on controllers. And especially when the game is opening, I really like the loading screen where Max is dancing, and it’s loading. Another thing is that all of the quests are straightforward and easy to do, which can also encourage beginners to play this game. The voxel art of this game is really nice. For the levels of this game, there are eight levels.

Characters and Story

So, as it’s a voxel art, Minecraft is the closest type of game compared to Riverbond. So Riverbond also added some Minecraft Youtubers as well as some skins like Shubble. Also, when you defeat some bosses, you also get their skin and can use their skin, which is also great. And also, I really like the idea of adding some Minecraft Youtuber skins.

The story may not be good for comprehensive gamers who want really good RPG games. It’s not as good as RPG games, but it’s at least an overall game that has a cohesive framework for adventures. The characters of the game are memorable and attractive, and the skin that I loved the most in the game is the Max one.

Visual Design

One of the exceptional things about Riverbond is its visual design. The game’s voxel art style is almost the twin of the Minecraft sandbox style, but with a more colorful aesthetic and polished design. The animations of this game are smooth, which adds an overall polish to the game. This game adds a vibrant color palette and really appealing character designs, which develop a funny, engaging, and friendly environment. However, if it’s a sword attack or a voxel creature explodes, the visual impact is strong and enjoyable. And I really like the design of this game.

The Way I Think About Riverbond

So whether you are playing with your friends or family, this game clearly makes players happy. And Riverbond is a game that any beginner can play, whether you are new or have zero experience in games. It’s easy to adapt Riverbond. And also, playing with different and unique skins on Riverbond is really both immersive and enjoyable. When talking about offline PC games, Riverbond might be an option for me. And another good thing about Riverbond is that it supports a lot of platforms, like Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Microsoft Windows. And it’s available in both Epic Games and Steam.
